Top cat names revealed in Cats Protection survey

Deciding on a name for your beloved new cat can be a challenge. Of course, you want to pick the purrfect moniker to suit your moggy’s unique personality, but there are so many different names to choose from!

To help you out, we asked the general public to tell us what they call their kitties and have put together a list of the most popular names to inspire you.

We had an incredible 34,000 responses to our Big Cat Name Survey of 2019* which revealed some interesting changes in cat naming trends compared to the results of a similar survey we did in 2014.

Is your cat’s name on the list? Let us know in the comments below!

Got her from local Cats Protection years ago, now she is approaching her 9th birthday and love her to bits, she’s one of 3 rescues and we have a part timer we call Matey?stray or shut out? But Happy to be with all of us! Minty 16,Molly 9, and Fenny Muffin 1.They are my shadows, when outside we all sit close together, inside they have their sleeping places and Matey and Fenny sleep together.
I named all mine after old friends in the village. There was a Percy too. We are one big happy family!
Don’t know where Matey lives or age (old) or proper name but he’s used to Matey now, he’s big, happy and soppy!

  7. As a partially sighted person, I find this video impossible to read. I'm sure I speak for all visually impaired people who want to know what's in the video to please add a voice over of what it says in the video please? I know lots of visually impaired people who own cats and would find this video interesting. One of my friends even asked her Mum to type up everything that was in the video to share with all her VI friends, me included. Thank you very much for your time.

  21. My cat, Harry was a rescue cat, a very long time ago. I don't really like the name, but as he'd already had his name changed from Ginger (He's black and white!) it didn't seem fair to inflict another change on him.

  29. How Mojo got his name; We adopted a very poorly, sad, black rescue kitten of 5 months, he was called Bob by the shelter but he'd only been called that for a week and we weren't keen on it. He was sick and scared and his personality wasn't showing, we only had him 48 hours before having to leave him at the vets for a week for malnutrition related illness. When he came back he was stomping about the house confidently and my husband said "somebody has got his Mojo back". There it was: MOJO and it really suits him.

  31. Human with 2 owners5 June 2019 at 09:15

I have 2 black cats who are brothers, Magic and Scout. They are 4 now but still happy to sleep together in the same armchair and heaven help any human that is sitting in it when they want to! When Scout comes in he walks straight up to Magic and bows his head for his brother to groom him but like any sibling the next minute they are knocking 7 bells out of each other! Wouldn't be without them or their black hair all over the place!

  32. Our little girl is there Bella, but Peanut (boy) and Indy (blue grey Maine Coon) are not there. Peanut was given by his previous owners (he came and joined the family via the cat flap). Indy is based on Indigo (blue) and his nature as a kitten Indiana Jones as he was a little explorer :-)
